The recession isn't making things easy no matter who you are, although women in the business world do seem to be struggling more in certain ways. In certain ways, though, they are dealing with things better.
How these women look at issues they are facing has much to do with this when compared to the way men handle this. men are the bread winners of families and women just make 'extra' money. Actually that's not always true, especially as times change, but there are men who still struggle with this, and having recession trouble only makes them take it harder. For husbands who've lost their jobs this is more true if they stay at home and the wife continues to work, because it can make the man feel inferior.
Generally most women don't feel like that, since society hasn't programmed them to think that. In handling the recession better than men they are aware of the fact the job that they have isn't a definition of who they are. wives and mothers. They know that they don't have to be just what they do for a living.
They still often have to make money though, and in a recession that can be difficult. So that they can make money and survive is to close up their brick and mortar businesses and take their businesses online only. Many of their operating expenses leave that way, which can make a huge difference.
Working online can also let women work from home, so they're able to spend more time with their children and other family members. They have the opportunity to be better as parents and wives as well as to be good businesswomen. For a few of the businesses owned by women, they aren't concerned with the recession. Those who write and edit generally still have plenty of work, and those who have quirky or unique businesses do well because these are businesses that are needed and wanted.
You can't just replace them, so they stay popular. Women who own these kinds of businesses know how to keep people interested in what they have to offer, and that helps them avoid the pitfalls of recession.
